Germany faces rising financial pressure as households deplete savings
A YouGov survey commissioned by Postbank reveals that high living costs for rent, energy, and food are forcing many Germans to rely on their savings to cover daily expenses. Approximately 42.6 percent of respondents reported using their reserves for living costs, while 13.8 percent have no savings at all.
The financial strain is most acute for households with a monthly net income of 2,500 euros or less, with only 21.4 percent able to cover their ongoing costs. Additionally, 15.2 percent of all respondents stated they could barely afford their living expenses due to rising prices, an increase from 12.8 percent in March.
In a separate trend, Generation Z in Germany is showing a shift in financial behavior. Despite economic pressures, this demographic is increasingly utilizing modern financial technologies and neobrokers, with roughly 50 percent investing directly in securities and ETFs through automated monthly savings plans.
