German biosphere regions host climate adaptation seminars
Various regional organizations in Germany are hosting educational seminars and excursions focused on environmental adaptation to climate change.
In the Rhön UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Thuringian Administration and the Thuringian Rhön Landscape Management Association are organizing a seminar in Zella on October 23. The session addresses spring protection and the construction of watering holes for livestock to combat increasing drought and long dry periods. The seminar aims to balance agricultural needs with the protection of sensitive water sources.
In Bavaria, the Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region is hosting activities to highlight local ecosystems. This includes an excursion to the Ainringer Moos wetland to observe diverse plant and bird species. Additionally, a guided tour at the Osing forest trail, conducted with the Bavarian Office for Forest Genetics, will discuss forest restructuring. The tour focuses on selecting climate-resilient tree species to combat the effects of heat, drought, and storms.
