German biotech and software startups secure new funding

Hanover-based biotech company seragy has secured 12 million euros in funding to advance its biomarker technology for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. The financing package, which includes debt, equity, and public funding, was provided by Commerzbank, the State of Lower Saxony, and the Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Niedersachsen. Additionally, the company received a research grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation to develop a Parkinson’s biomarker test.

Seragy intends to use the capital to expand its proprietary SeRAS biomarker platform, increase laboratory capacity in Hanover, and grow its international presence through collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms.

In a separate development, the software startup SMYCLES has raised 1.5 million euros in an equity financing round led by the IBG-Fonds of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, managed by bmp Ventures AG. The round also included private investors from Germany and the United States. SMYCLES, which specializes in AI-driven software to optimize team compositions between human employees and AI agents, will relocate its headquarters to Magdeburg as part of this expansion.
