German Bishops discuss AI ethics and papal encyclical

Leaders of the German Bishops' Conference held a press conference in Fulda to discuss the implications of artificial intelligence through the lens of the papal encyclical ‘Magnifica humanitas’.

Bishop Heiner Wilmer, Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, emphasized that human beings must remain the central focus rather than the machine. The discussion, which included Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Archbishop Udo Markus Bentz, aimed to explore how the Church in Germany can respond to the ethical and social challenges posed by AI development. The participants noted that the encyclical marks the beginning of a long-term process of engagement regarding technology and the common good.
