German Borken and Austrian Wels police seize speeding cars

In the Borken district of Germany, police set up a speed‑measurement station on Gendringer Straße in Isselburg‑Anholt. A driver exceeded the 50 km/h limit by 60 km/h, reaching 110 km/h. Over a recent week, 10,687 vehicles were recorded at 21 locations, with 7 % exceeding limits. The operation resulted in 159 traffic violations, 614 fines and six driving bans, and authorities plan to continue measurements.

In Wels, Austria, the traffic police used laser devices on the B137. A 20‑year‑old driver was recorded at 105 km/h, later averaging 129 km/h in a 70 km/h zone; his licence was temporarily withdrawn and his car seized. Shortly after, another motorist was caught at 160 km/h and also had the vehicle confiscated. A 17‑year‑old with a provisional licence was found 85 km/h over the limit; his licence and car were likewise seized, and illegal modifications to the vehicle were noted.
