German bridge clubs host nationwide event to combat loneliness
The German Bridge Association (Deutscher Bridge-Verband e. V.) has announced an action day on October 1, 2026, where bridge clubs across Germany will open their doors to the public. The initiative aims to combat loneliness, a significant issue for the elderly, coinciding with the United Nations' International Day of Older Persons.
Participants can learn the card game without prior knowledge. The association highlights that bridge promotes memory, logic, and teamwork, serving as a tool against social isolation, which research identifies as a risk factor for dementia. The event will kick off at the Presseclub Wiesbaden, featuring speakers from various organizations including the Alzheimer Gesellschaft Wiesbaden and the Rotary Club Wiesbaden.
