German Bundestag member salaries and allowances

Members of the German Bundestag receive a monthly compensation, referred to as a diet, which as of July 1, 2025, amounts to 11,833.47 euros. This income is subject to income tax.

In addition to this base salary, parliamentarians receive a tax-free expense allowance. As of July 2026, this allowance is set at 5,467.27 euros per month. This supplementary funding is intended to cover parliamentary work costs, such as constituency office expenses, office supplies, constituency management, and costs associated with a second residence in Berlin, rather than serving as additional personal income.
