German call money interest rates reach highest levels since 2009
Call money (Tagesgeld) interest rates in Germany have reached their highest levels since 2009. As of October 1, 2026, the average interest rate across compared banks stands at 2.08 percent per annum. Among the top five banks, the average rate is significantly higher at 4.04 percent.
Financial experts suggest that due to rising inflation, savers should consider moving reserves into well-remunerated call money accounts. While fixed-term deposit (Festgeld) rates have also increased, they have risen less sharply than call money rates. Average fixed-term rates across all maturities are at 2.74 percent, with some ten-year options reaching up to 3.75 percent.
In a specific promotional offer, DKB will provide a 4.00 percent promotional interest rate for four months on new deposits starting November 1, 2026. To qualify, new funds must be transferred from an external account during a specific window between October 6 and October 20, 2026. After the four-month promotional period ends in February 2027, the rate reverts to a standard 1.00 percent.
