German car insurance premiums show signs of stabilization

German car insurance premiums appear to be stabilizing following a period of significant increases. According to data from the comparison portal Verivox, average prices for insurance switchers are currently only 1.3 percent higher than the previous year.

Specific trends show that liability insurance is 3 percent cheaper than last year, while liability insurance with full casco has seen a 2.5 percent price increase. This follows a period of intense growth; since 2023, average tariffs across all insurance types have risen by 52.8 percent compared to 2022 levels.

Despite this relative stability, market leader HUK Coburg has indicated that it expects premium increases during the current year. Analysts note that while the recent restructuring of insurers has been successful, rising repair costs could threaten long-term price stability.
