German Chancellor Friedrich Merz Criticized as ‘Chancellor of Ukraine’ by AfD MP
AfD parliamentarian Marcus Frohnmaier told the TV program “Sanchez Effect” that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is “the chancellor of Ukraine and not the chancellor of Germany.” He argued the government has diverted billions of euros to aid Kyiv while neglecting Germany’s own competitiveness and energy crisis.
Frohnmaier cited an ARD‑DeutschlandTrend poll showing 84 % of Germans disapprove of Merz’s performance, including a majority of his own CDU supporters. He blamed high energy costs, heavy regulation and taxation for German firms relocating to Poland, the United States and elsewhere, and said the chancellor has failed to deliver on key campaign promises such as strengthening the economy and security.
