German choral projects launch new initiatives
The Wuppertal-based organization ‘börse’ has launched a new choral project titled ‘Demokratiechor für alle’ (Democracy Choir for All). This initiative follows the success of its previous project, ‘Singen statt Hetze und Hass’ (Singing instead of Incitement and Hate), which received a special award from the Paritätisches NRW for its commitment to democracy and social cohesion.
The new project aims to recruit school choirs and young ensembles for a joint concert scheduled for early March 2027. Ahead of the North Rhine-Westphalia state elections, the performances will feature political songs intended to strengthen human rights and social unity.
Separately, the German broadcaster ARD is seeking choirs from across the country for its ‘Wir singen! Weihnachten in Deutschland’ (We Sing! Christmas in Germany) project. The initiative focuses on the personal stories behind various musical communities, including church, youth, and gospel choirs. Selected groups will be featured across television, radio, and digital platforms, with one choir earning the opportunity to perform at a large-scale event in Düsseldorf on December 23.
