German cities begin major park renovation projects in Dresden and Wiesbaden

The city of Dresden started renovation work on Briesnitz Park South on 13 July 2026. The project, funded with €506,000 in EU regional development funds and €217,000 from the city, will create a modern park with a table‑tennis table, climbing wall, sled hill, benches and picnic tables. The existing calisthenics area will be retained, and historic sandstone walls will be restored. The work, carried out by Garten‑ und Landschaftsbau Herfurth GmbH, is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.

In Wiesbaden, construction of the new Elsässer Park is progressing on schedule. Mayor Christiane Hinninger highlighted the transformation of a former parking lot into a green space with climate‑adaptation features, including a 200‑cubic‑metre rain‑water cistern, new trees, a barrier‑free bus stop and a fountain field. The park will provide play areas, walking routes and improved rain‑water management, with final plantings expected in autumn before the park opens to the public.

Both projects illustrate German municipal efforts to expand urban green areas, enhance recreation facilities and incorporate climate‑resilient design.
