German cities call for proper use of recycling containers
The city of Bayreuth urged residents to keep recycling collection points clean, stressing that bulky waste and e‑waste must not be left beside glass and paper containers. Improper disposal creates extra disposal costs, an untidy cityscape and limits access for proper users. Bayreuth offers free drop‑off of electronic devices at its waste centre and a mobile app for bulky‑waste collection.
In Bamberg, Green Party councillors Elias Leikeb and Hayati Yilmaz proposed repurposing the space freed by removing underused clothing and glass containers. Options include benches, green areas, bike racks and drinking‑water fountains, as well as converting above‑ground containers to underground units to deter littering. The council seeks cost estimates before proceeding.
