The volunteer‑run "Leipzig gießt" initiative uses an app to organize regular watering of vulnerable trees, aiming to prevent die‑back.

In the neighboring city of Viersen, the municipal fire brigade and city services have launched a joint watering campaign. About 400 trees in the districts of Viersen, Dülken and Süchteln are being irrigated this week by volunteer firefighters, who continue to remain on standby for emergencies. Mayor Christoph Hopp praised the volunteers, saying, "Our fire brigade stands round the clock for people’s safety, and their extra effort to protect the city’s green spaces deserves great recognition."
