German cities enhance local police presence and facilities

German cities are implementing new measures to enhance local law enforcement presence and accessibility.

In Wolfsburg, the police have appointed Patrick Oehlmann as the new community liaison officer for the city center. Oehlmann, a 42-year-old criminal chief inspector, joins a prevention team tasked with maintaining direct contact with local business owners and citizens. His responsibilities include investigative work, school safety, traffic education, and informing seniors about fraud prevention.

In Frankfurt, the city police are preparing to move into a new downtown station located on Stiftstraße. Expected to be operational by late October, the 346-square-meter facility follows a three-and-a-half-year search for suitable premises. The move aims to replace outdated facilities in the Hauptwache area that suffered from poor ventilation and lack of sunlight. The new station will feature barrier-free access, meeting rooms, and a transparent design to ensure visibility.
