German cities expand cycling infrastructure in Lübeck and Göttingen
German cities are advancing cycling infrastructure projects to improve safety and urban mobility.
In Lübeck, construction is beginning on the third phase of the Radroute Plus expansion along Ratzeburger Allee. The project, covering a 640-meter section between Weinbergstraße and Osterweide, aims to create a safer and more comfortable connection for cyclists while renewing existing infrastructure. Work is expected to continue until mid-2027, involving various phases of partial road closures and a temporary one-way traffic system starting in early 2027.
In Göttingen, a protected bike lane will be established on Reinhäuser Landstraße between Gaußstraße and Geismartor. The project, part of a local cycling referendum and environmental committee decision, involves expanding current lane closures to provide a long, structurally separated path for cyclists. Temporary markers will be used initially to allow for traffic flow studies, with permanent markings and dividers scheduled for installation in mid-October.
