German Cities Hold Anti‑Loneliness Events During Nationwide Week
In Würzburg, the first "Gemeinsame BrotZEIT" was organized in several districts as part of the nationwide action week "Gemeinsam aus der Einsamkeit". Despite high temperatures that forced cancellations in two locations, the event attracted many residents who shared bread and conversation, creating low‑threshold meeting points. The program was supported by local quarter‑managements, clubs, initiatives and volunteers, and Mayor Martin Heilig praised the importance of face‑to‑face encounters for community building.
In Dresden, the same action week ran from 22 to 28 June 2026, featuring over 80 events and roughly 800 participants. Social mayor Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann highlighted the strong response and the role of diverse partners – from churches to neighbourhood centres – in combating loneliness. Dresden also became an early signatory of the federal Alliance against Loneliness, underscoring a commitment to embed such initiatives in municipal policy.
