German cities host social events to combat senior loneliness

Various German cities are hosting social events designed to promote participation and combat loneliness among senior citizens. In Hanau, the “Takt & Torte” event recently premiered at the Stadthof, attracting over 100 seniors. Due to its success, the program is expected to become a monthly fixture held on the first Thursday of every month.

Other regional initiatives include dance events in Bottrop and Greiz, as well as senior-focused cultural tours at the Museum St. Wendel. However, some programs face instability; for instance, the Tanz-Café Neu-Schmellwitz in Cottbus is at risk of closing after funding applications were rejected despite relatively low annual costs.
