German cities host summer open-air cinema series

Across Germany, summer open‑air cinema programmes have expanded. In the Stuttgart region, a network of venues—including the Esslinger Burg, campus sites in Esslingen, the Kirchheim unter Teck summer night cinema, Nürtingen, Ludwigsburg’s Karlskaserne, the Mercedes‑Benz Museum and the Old Castle courtyard—offers a mix of family‑friendly blockbusters, mainstream comedies, classics and animated titles such as *Minions* and *Toy Story 5*. Seating ranges from traditional rows to picnic lawns, and food stalls serve pizza, pasta, popcorn and other treats.

In Frankfurt, the “High Rise Cinema” returns for the 2026 season from 23 July to 16 August. Hosted on the rooftop terraces of the Opernturm, Taunusturm and the city’s green‑space office, the series—presented by Lufthansa—features a varied lineup that began with a Marilyn Monroe tribute and includes titles like *La La Land*, *Little Miss Sunny* and the drama *Hamnet*. Tickets cost €18 and screenings are weather‑dependent.
