German cities implement new methods to combat graffiti
Municipalities in Germany are adopting diverse strategies to address illegal graffiti. In Pforzheim, the city has revived the ‘Anti-Graffiti-Mobil’ initiative. This program involves juvenile offenders performing community service by removing graffiti from public and private facades. Coordinated by the Youth and Social Welfare Office, the police, and former police chief Volker Weingardt, the project aims to promote discipline and social responsibility through meaningful labor during school holidays.
In Dresden, the city cleaning service (Stadtreinigung Dresden GmbH) has invested approximately 200,000 euros in advanced laser technology to remove markings. The city has acquired two Class 4 laser devices and mobile power supplies to facilitate cleaning on various surfaces, including sensitive sandstone buildings, brick, and wood. This method uses high-energy laser pulses to detach paint without damaging the underlying material or its natural patina, offering a more environmentally friendly alternative to high-pressure washers and chemical cleaners.
