German cities implement new traffic and parking measures

Local authorities in Germany are implementing new measures to manage traffic and parking issues in Osnabrück and Weiden.

In Osnabrück, bollards have been installed to protect a rapid bicycle highway (Radschnellweg) on Schlachthofstraße. The installation follows years of issues where motorists frequently parked illegally on the cycle path, causing chaos that local authorities and police struggled to manage. While the bollards protect the lane, some have had to be placed directly on the cycle path to be effective.

In Weiden, the city has introduced temporary parking spaces on Dr.-Pfleger-Straße. These spots allow short-term parkers, medical transport services, and taxis to stop for up to ten minutes. Officials described this as an interim solution while a more sustainable, comprehensive traffic concept is developed for the area.
