German cities implement tree planting initiatives for climate adaptation
In Regensburg, a diverse coalition of political parties including the SPD, Greens, Brücke, FW, ÖDP, and Volt planted a symbolic purple alder in Georg-Hegenauer-Park. The act serves as a symbol of cooperation among the newly formed city administration and represents a commitment to making the city more resilient against climate change through increased urban greenery.
In Pforzheim, the city distributed 380 climate-resilient trees to local residents as part of its climate adaptation concept. Participants selected from 14 native, heat-tolerant, and drought-resistant species, including sweet cherry and aspen. The initiative, coordinated by the Environmental Protection Office, aims to improve local microclimates through shade and evaporative cooling.
