German Cities Move Forward with Bus Stop and Trail Renovations

Leipzig will make the Hempelstraße bus stop in Altlindenau barrier‑free, adding a new passenger shelter and renewing the roadway. The work, costing about €320,000, is financed almost entirely by the Zweckverband für den Nahverkehrsraum Leipzig and is slated for completion in October 2026.

In Hamburg's Wellingsbüttel district, the Alsterwanderweg will be upgraded with three new access points to the Alstertal. The €300,000 project, planned for summer 2027, has drawn criticism from cyclists because the design omits continuous bike ramps, potentially forcing riders to dismount and push their bikes up steps. Local politicians have highlighted the need for a practical, all‑user route as part of the broader Bezirksroute W8 bike network.
