German cities propose new cycling infrastructure and road redesigns

Local authorities in Germany are considering several proposals to improve cycling infrastructure in different districts. In Pieschen, the district advisory board unanimously approved a CDU proposal to redesign the intersection of Kötzschenbroder Straße, Washingtonstraße, and Lommatzscher Straße. The move aims to address safety concerns caused by cyclists cutting across green spaces to avoid inefficient detours, which has resulted in unpaved, muddy paths that pose a fall risk.

In the Linden-Limmer district, plans are underway to repurpose the Leinertbrücke following its renovation. The administration intends to convert the two right-hand lanes—one for inbound and one for outbound traffic—into bicycle lanes. This plan, supported by the city administration, includes establishing a two-way cycle path between Theodor-Krüger-Straße and Almstadtweg. Officials noted that a single lane for motorized vehicles in each direction remains sufficient for traffic flow in the area.
