German coastal and lakeside landscapes change due to water levels

Various coastal and lakeside regions in Germany are experiencing notable landscape changes due to water levels. In the North Sea, visitors are engaging in ten-kilometer mudflat hikes from Cuxhaven to the island of Neuwerk. This route traverses the seabed during low tide, offering views of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, including crabs, shellfish, and migratory birds.

Simultaneously, at Lake Constance, receding water levels near the mouth of the Rotach river in Friedrichshafen have exposed a large, sandy shoreline. This new landscape allows pedestrians to walk in areas typically covered by water, providing panoramic views of the Alps and the city of Friedrichshafen, though the ground becomes increasingly muddy closer to the current waterline.
