German Communities Boost School Support with Backpack Donations and Pilot Assistance Program

In Ickern, volunteers collected around 40 used schoolbags and delivered them to families in need through a Caritas‑run initiative, helping children start the school year with proper equipment.

In Dorsten, a new pilot project for systemic school assistance has been launched at the Haldenwang School. Led by Johanna Ketteler, the program aims to extend individualized support from a single child to multiple students, offering greater flexibility and shared responsibility for educators.

Both initiatives reflect local efforts in North Rhine‑Westphalia to strengthen educational resources for disadvantaged pupils.
