German communities prepare for traditional Kirchweih festivals

Several German communities are preparing for their traditional Kirchweih (Kerwe) festivals.

In Geslau, celebrations are scheduled from October 8 to 12, 2026. The event features a variety of activities including a beer tapping ceremony, a parade, and religious services at St. Kilians Church. Entertainment options include carousels, an autoscooter, and live music from groups such as 'Hofmanns Fritze' and 'Die Dochrinna'. Local sports club TSG Geslau-Buch am Wald will host football games and festivities.

In Großsteinhausen, a five-day festival will take place starting Friday, October 9. The schedule includes a 'Schlachtfest' (slaughter festival), various football matches involving SV Großsteinhausen, and musical performances by DJs and bands. Traditional food offerings such as schnitzel, liver dumplings, and a herring dinner will be served throughout the week.
