Straubing's Gäubodenvolksfest draws 1.3 million visitors as Germany hosts a wave of summer festivals

The Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing, Bavaria, opens on Friday, 7 August 2026, with an expected 1.3 million attendees over ten‑and‑a‑half days. Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer will give the opening speech, and the event features a traditional evening parade but no keg‑tapping ceremony.

Across Germany, a series of local summer festivals are scheduled. The Hallenfest in Schleefeld runs from 7‑10 August with a grill evening, Weißwurst‑Frühschoppen and a Kesselfleisch dinner. Stadtlengsfeld’s city fest is set for 29‑30 August 2026, offering live bands, a rock‑and‑blues program and family activities. The Schmidgaden Kirwa takes place 15‑17 August, featuring a church service, marching band, fireworks and free entry. Rosenheim‑Fürstätt hosts the CSU‑Stadlfest on 4 August, highlighted by local food, beer and performances by the “Am Wasen” brass band. In Schüttorf, a family‑focused Sunday event on 16 August includes children's characters, a rock‑concert and a street‑food market. The town of Weißenthurm will hold its city‑fest from 18‑20 September, celebrating 60 years of municipal rights with live music, a silent‑party and a fireworks display. A similar community celebration occurs in Appenzell, Switzerland, on 1 August.
