German Companies Expand AI Use Amid Employee Strain and Prompt‑Engineering Surge

A survey of more than 8,000 insurance employees in Germany found that while three‑quarters already use AI applications, 80 % report no real reduction in workload and nine‑in‑ten see no decline in psychological pressure. Workers also cite rising concerns about job security. Insurers such as Ergo are investing heavily – over €130 million in AI infrastructure and running more than 300 AI projects while planning to cut roughly 1,000 positions.

At the same time, 57 % of German firms are turning to prompt engineering as the primary method for managing AI systems. New open‑source prompt libraries released in June 2026 aim to standardise workflows, with analysts estimating up to 120 hours saved per employee annually. Sector‑specific prompt sets are emerging for finance and marketing, and major model providers like OpenAI and Anthropic have introduced tools to integrate prompts into enterprise toolchains, promising further efficiency gains.

These trends highlight a growing gap between AI deployment for operational efficiency and the actual relief experienced by staff across German enterprises.
