German conferences to address chemical industry defossilization

Upcoming industrial conferences in Germany will focus on the transition of the chemical and plastics industries away from fossil-based raw materials.

The Renewable Materials Conference, scheduled for September 22–24, 2026, in Siegburg and online, will address the technological, economic, and political requirements for defossilization. Organized by the nova-Institut, the event aims to explore how biomass, CO2 utilization, and recycling can replace fossil carbon. Key discussions will center on regulatory frameworks, market instruments, and certification systems necessary for the widespread adoption of renewable materials.

Additionally, the International Symposium on Feedstock Recycling of Polymeric Materials (ISFR 2026) will take place at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from September 6–9, 2026. This symposium will bring together researchers and industry representatives from Europe, Asia, and North America to discuss chemical recycling. The technology aims to close the loop on plastic waste by breaking plastics down into molecular building blocks, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil carbon sources.
