German consumer trends show rising interest in culture and VR technology

Recent data indicates a growing engagement with cultural activities and virtual reality in Germany. According to the Freizeit-Monitor 2026, 45 percent of Germans visit a museum or exhibition at least once a year, an increase from 30 percent in 2016. Additionally, 57 percent of Germans aged 18 and older visit the cinema at least once annually, while 35 percent read a book every week.

In the technology sector, a Bitkom Research survey reveals that 35 percent of Germans aged 16 and older have used VR glasses, up from 28 percent the previous year. While 78 percent of the population is open to virtual reality, regular usage remains low; only 12 percent of users wear the devices at least once a week. Gaming remains the primary application, with 92 percent of users utilizing VR for video games.

Regarding media collaborations, culture and media blogs in German-speaking regions command a median fee of 250 euros per article. Experts suggest that for credible cooperation, bloggers should maintain transparent handling of review copies and provide reasoned judgments.
