German couples celebrate 65th wedding anniversaries
Two couples in Germany are celebrating their ‘Iron Wedding’ milestones, marking 65 years of marriage.
In Erbendorf, Wolfgang and Ursula Scholz were honored by Mayor Bernhard Schmidt. The couple, originally from Silesia, moved to Erbendorf following the Second World War and displacement. They married in the Martin-Luther Church in 1961 and have three children.
In the municipality of Rommerskirchen, Edmund and Gertrud Schöttle also celebrated 65 years of marriage. Their union was shaped by the aftermath of World War II; Edmund was born in Bessarabia, an area now part of Ukraine. The couple, who have four great-grandchildren, celebrated their wedding in 1956.
