Hamburg Court Sentences Members of Right‑Wing Terror Group Letzte Verteidigungswelle
The Hanseatisches Oberlandesgericht Hamburg sentenced seven young members and one supporter of the right‑wing extremist group Letzte Verteidigungswelle to prison terms ranging from one and a half to five years. At the time of the offences the defendants were between 14 and 21 years old. The court classified the group as an in‑land terrorist organization.
The convictions include attempted murder, attempted murder agreement, arson and dangerous bodily injury. The group is also accused of “pædo‑hunting” – targeting people they deemed pedophiles – and of planning and carrying out arson and bomb attacks on asylum‑seeker homes and left‑wing facilities in Brandenburg and Thuringia. Because of the defendants’ ages the trial was held behind closed doors. The verdict was delivered on a Wednesday at 12:30, but the judgments are not yet final and can be appealed within a week.
The sentencing marks the conclusion of a high‑profile case that began with raids across several German states in 2024‑2025 and raised concerns about extremist violence targeting migrants and political opponents.
