German court rejects Jobcenter funding request for company car
The State Social Court of Baden-Württemberg has upheld a decision to deny a Jobcenter funding request from an aspiring commercial representative. The individual sought a total of 13,703 euros to launch his self-employment, which included approximately 11,000 euros specifically for a company vehicle.
The court identified two primary reasons for the rejection. First, the applicant requested the entire amount as a grant, which exceeds the legal limit of 5,000 euros for such subsidies under Section 16c of the SGB II. While loans can exceed this limit, the applicant sought only grants. Second, the court found that the economic viability of the planned self-employment was not sufficiently proven.
While the ruling does not prohibit the purchase of company cars through Jobcenter support, it emphasizes that applicants must provide adequate evidence of business prospects and adhere to statutory funding caps. The case highlights a gap in startup planning where signed contracts do not substitute for proven financial security and regulatory compliance.
