German court upholds life sentence for husband in Clemnitz murder case

The German Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has rejected an appeal, making a life sentence for a 39-year-old man final. He was convicted of murdering his wife with a meat cleaver in Chemnitz.

The victim had previously fled domestic violence but returned to the family home in September 2025. The court found that the defendant attacked her multiple times with great force, intending to kill her because he could not accept their impending separation and viewed her as his property.

Notably, two children were present in the apartment during the attack. The defendant reportedly left his 13-year-old son in the home with his dying mother following the incident.
