German courts convict fraudsters posing as bank employees

Three men were sentenced by a Dortmund regional court to prison terms for impersonating bank staff and defrauding customers in Dortmund and the Recklinghausen district, causing losses of about €500,000.

In a related case, a senior resident of Marl was contacted by callers claiming to be bank employees, who convinced her to hand over her debit card and PIN. The fraudsters later retrieved the card in person and withdrew cash. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked and are seeking witnesses to identify the woman who collected the card in Marl.
