German courts rule on Tübingen parking fees and Berlin park closures

The Sigmaringen Administrative Court has halted the implementation of parking fees in the Au-Ost industrial area of Tübingen. The court ruled that the city failed to provide sufficient legal justification for the charges, noting that the municipality only presented occupancy data from 2021 showing a 53 percent usage rate. Tübingen Mayor Boris Palmer has announced plans to appeal the decision to the Administrative Court in Mannheim.

In a separate legal matter, the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) Berlin-Brandenburg has ruled that Görlitzer Park in Berlin-Kreuzberg must remain open at night. The court rejected a complaint filed by the Senate Environment Administration, upholding a previous decision that the Senate lacked the authority to mandate the park's nighttime closure. The court determined that the responsibility for such regulations lies with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Office rather than the Senate.
