German craft apprentices receive safety training and AI resilience assessments
In Germany, vocational training initiatives and assessments are highlighting the evolving landscape of the craft trades. The Kreishandwerkerschaft Ingolstadt-Pfaffenhofen recently conducted a safety seminar for approximately 150 apprentices from various sectors, including construction, electrical, metalworking, and carpentry. The training focused on occupational safety and the correct handling of machinery, such as circular saws, to mitigate workplace accident risks.
Separately, the profession of specialist for wood and building protection has seen an increase in trainees, rising from three in 2024 to 15 in 2025. An assessment of the role's AI resilience yielded a score of 2.7, placing it in a moderate position compared to other trades like carpenters or painters. While software and thermal imaging cameras assist in diagnosis and documentation, core tasks such as drilling, cleaning, and combating fungi and pests remain manual human responsibilities.
