German crime series drive interest in Sylt and Usedom filming locations
Popular German crime series are driving tourism and interest in specific coastal filming locations. The ZDF series ‘Nord Nord Mord,’ featuring Inspector Carl Sievers, has been a consistent ratings success since 2011, with a series record of 10.32 million viewers for one episode. While the island of Sylt serves as a primary setting—with recognizable locations including Kampen, Keitum, and the Hörnum harbor—many scenes are actually filmed in Hamburg and surrounding areas to facilitate production.
Similarly, the ‘Usedom-Krimi’ series, starring Katrin Sass as Karin Lossow, has maintained a strong presence since 2014. Known for its darker, more emotional tone, the series frequently utilizes the landscapes of the Usedom island, including Zinnowitz and Peenemünde, to frame its character-driven dramas.
