German Customs Seize 8 Tonnes of Cocaine Valued at €500 Million

German customs officials intercepted more than eight tonnes of cocaine in a sea‑container at the Jade‑Weser‑Port in Wilhelmshaven, estimating a street‑value of around €500 million. The operation, described by Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil as “a hard blow against international drug trafficking,” represents one of the largest cocaine finds in recent years. The seized drug, concealed among cocoa beans destined for Spain, was destroyed under strict security measures after investigations linked the shipment to a West‑African import network. The success is expected to support upcoming customs legislation aimed at strengthening tools against organized crime.
