German cyclists face heavy fines at railway crossings

Cyclists in Germany face significant penalties for violating traffic rules at railway crossings. Crossing a railway crossing while barriers are closed can result in a fine of approximately 378.50 euros and a penalty point in the Flensburg registry. Notably, dismounting and walking the bicycle across the barrier does not exempt the individual from these penalties.

Under the Federal Driving License Ordinance, these violations are classified as serious offenses. The penalty point applies even to individuals who do not hold a driver's license. For those currently in their probationary driving period, such infractions are considered serious violations that can lead to further administrative consequences.
