German dairy farms showcase modern infrastructure and organic practices
Dairy farming operations in Germany are highlighting modern infrastructure and the challenges of the current market. In Hermannsberg, the Braun family farm hosted a tour organized by the Federal Association of German Dairy Farmers (BDM). The visit included discussions on the milk market and the difficulties farmers face due to ongoing drought. The Braun farm has transitioned from a village-based operation to a modern facility outside the village, featuring a milking parlor for 90 cows and specialized flooring designed to maintain hoof health.
In Herbstein, local officials visited the Narz family farm to observe organic dairy production. The Narz operation, which has been part of the Bioland organic association since 2008, has undergone significant expansion since 1990. Their facility includes modern calf housing with manually operated sliding roofs to regulate temperature and climate. The visit emphasized the complexity of managing animal welfare, feeding, and economic stability in the dairy sector.
