Rheinmetall and Hensoldt secure major German defense orders
German defense companies Rheinmetall and Hensoldt have reported significant growth driven by Bundeswehr procurement.
Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH secured its largest single order to date, receiving a call-off from a 2024 framework contract for 149 additional mobile rescue stations. Valued at over €500 million, this expansion brings the total number of Modular Medical Facilities (MSE) systems to 165, with a total program value exceeding €600 million. These highly mobile, container-based units are designed for rapid deployment and emergency medical care, incorporating lessons learned regarding mobility from the war in Ukraine. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Separately, Hensoldt reported a record order backlog of over €10 billion, following a doubling of order intake in the first half of 2026. The defense electronics firm received orders from the BAAINBw for Joint Fire Support Team equipment and the development of the ‘ODAEON’ optical detection system. Hensoldt also announced a cooperation agreement with Bosch to establish a ‘Software-Defined Defence’ competence center in Leinfelden near Stuttgart.
