German Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger criticized for AI‑generated speeches

German Minister for Digitisation and Modernisation of the State, Karsten Wildberger, has come under sharp criticism after German media analysis revealed that many of his speeches, articles and parliamentary remarks were largely generated by artificial intelligence. The investigation, using AI‑detection software, identified a fully AI‑written address delivered at the Atlantic Council in Washington in 2024 as well as numerous op‑eds in leading German newspapers.

The ministry defended the practice, stating that AI is treated as a standard productivity tool comparable to a text editor and that Germany must learn to use the technology productively across the economy, public sector and politics. Experts cautioned that detection tools are not infallible. The controversy emerges as Germany accelerates its digital transformation agenda with a new ministry launched in 2025 to modernise public administration.
