German district and Hungarian capital raise taxi fares amid fuel price pressure

In the Kreis Düren district of Germany, a new taxi tariff that was approved in late March must be revised after the regional measurement office identified three required corrections, including adjustments to two distance figures. The administration seeks an urgent decision to implement the changes within eight weeks, arguing that high fuel prices are threatening taxi operators and that further delays would endanger their viability.

In Budapest, Hungary, the city council approved higher taxi rates effective 1 August. The base fare rises from 1,100 to 1,300 forint, the per‑kilometre charge from 440 to 521 forint, and the per‑minute charge from 110 to 130 forint. An additional 800‑forint surcharge applies to trips to and from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, ending a previous privilege that allowed taxis to pick up passengers at the terminal free of charge for five minutes.

Both jurisdictions cite rising fuel costs as a key driver for the fare adjustments, aiming to sustain taxi services while balancing consumer costs.
