German driver sentenced to prison for speeding in Lofoten
A German national has been sentenced to prison in Norway for excessive speeding on the Lofoten islands. In August 2026, the driver was stopped on the E10 highway after being clocked at 183 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
According to reports from NRK and VG, the driver engaged in several dangerous overtaking maneuvers and was traveling at speeds that prevented police from stopping him immediately. Officers were only able to apprehend the driver when he slowed down due to traffic congestion. The driver's mother was present in the passenger seat at the time of the incident.
During the encounter, the driver reportedly lacked identification and acted in an agitated manner, leading police to locate his passport during a search of his hotel room. While the vehicle had been rented in Sweden and could not be confiscated, the driver admitted guilt to the police. He was not present during the court proceedings.
