Germany's Roads Face Seasonal Hazards for Drivers

The ADAC warns that the early harvest season brings unusually large agricultural machines onto German roads. Tractors, combine harvesters and other farm equipment can be up to ten metres long and occupy more than half a lane, making overtaking difficult. Drivers are advised to keep a safe distance, wait for the machinery to clear the roadway and avoid passing on narrow or blind sections.

ADAC also notes that thaw‑freeze cycles after the winter have created a surge of potholes across the country. Water infiltrates cracks, freezes, expands and leaves cavities that damage vehicle suspensions and tyres. Municipal repairs are costly, and liability for damage remains unclear, prompting drivers to inspect road surfaces and report large holes promptly.
