German elections: Left Party leads in Berlin as AfD wins in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Initial election projections in Germany show divergent results between Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In Berlin, the Left Party (Die Linke) is leading according to early estimates from ARD and ZDF, securing between 24.5% and 26% of the vote. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) follows in second place with approximately 20%, while the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is estimated to receive between 13.5% and 16%.

In contrast, the AfD is leading in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with projected results between 37% and 38%. The SPD, led by state Premier Manuela Schwesig, follows closely with an estimated 35.5% to 36.5%. The CDU is currently hovering near the threshold required to enter the state parliament in that region.

Other parties in Berlin include the Greens with 15% to 15.5%, the Social Democrats (SPD) at 12%, and the BSW (Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance) at approximately 5%. These figures are preliminary projections and are subject to change as the evening progresses.
