German ethicist Elmar Nass warns against AI‑written political speeches

Social ethicist Elmar Nass cautioned that using artificial intelligence to draft entire political speeches threatens democratic debate. He argued that while AI can assist in research or fine‑tune wording, handing over full text blocks or argumentative structures could let machines dominate political discourse, "destroying the creativity of political arguing".

Nass urged politicians to speak from their own experience, stating, "The political discourse must be led by humans. Language is an expression of people and must not become an expression of machines." His remarks follow criticism of Thuringian Minister‑President Mario Voigt and Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger for allegedly employing AI in recent speeches.
