Marinus Obermair Targets 350‑km Danube Swim Record in 72 Hours

German extreme‑athlete Marinus Obermair, 23, plans a 350‑kilometre swim along the Danube from Passau, Germany, to Bratislava, Slovakia, aiming to complete the distance within 72 hours and set a new world record. He has spent months training for endurance, cold tolerance and sleep deprivation, and will wear a neoprene suit while being supported by a boat that carries blankets and food.

Obermair’s preparation includes acclimating to low temperatures, building stamina, and mental conditioning for the pain and exhaustion expected during the continuous swim. The biggest risks he cites are hypothermia, severe fatigue and the physical strain of staying afloat for three days. The attempt is sponsored by nutrition brand yfood, and actress Sophia Thomalla is acting as a patron for the effort.
